Tsanko Tsankov Makes History in the Danube River
Tsanko Tsankov has etched his name in history as the first swimmer to conquer a distance of over 100 kilometers in the Danube River. His incredible feat saw him cover 108.25 kilometers in a grueling 18 hours, 12 minutes, and 32 seconds, swimming non-stop from the outskirts of Vidin to the Radetsky ship in Kozloduy.
This remarkable achievement was accomplished under the watchful eye of the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) and meticulously managed by the Iliev Sport Agency. Tsankov's dedication and perseverance were recognized by the mayor of Vidin Municipality, Tsvetan Tsenkov, who awarded him and his coach, Nikolay Iliev, for their historic accomplishment.
Tsankov's swimming prowess extends beyond the Danube. He holds the distinction of being the first Bulgarian to swim from Europe to Africa across the Strait of Gibraltar and is a world champion in ice swimming. His unwavering spirit and determination continue to inspire not only the children of Vidin but also people around the world.
