Vice President Harris and Former President Trump to Face Off in Debate
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will face off in a debate on Tuesday, September 10th, as the 2024 election draws near. This will be the first time the two candidates have met on the debate stage since President Biden withdrew from the race in July.
The debate will be hosted by ABC News at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and will begin at 9 p.m. ET. It will be 90 minutes long and will be moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.
There will be no audience present for the debate, and it will feature two commercial breaks. During the debate, the candidates will have two minutes to answer questions and for rebuttals, along with an extra minute for follow-ups, clarifications, or responses. No props or pre-written notes are permitted onstage.
The candidates will also have two minutes to deliver closing statements, with Trump delivering the final statement after winning a coin toss. There will be no opening statements.
Candidates' microphones will only be live when it's their turn to speak. This was a point of contention between the two campaigns, with the Harris campaign arguing that both candidates' microphones should be on throughout the debate. However, the Harris campaign ultimately agreed to have the microphones muted when a candidate isn't speaking.
In the lead-up to the debate, both Trump and Harris have been highlighting their policy platforms on the campaign trail. Trump has been reviewing policy positions with advisors, while Harris has been focusing on her debate strategy.
The debate is expected to be a closely watched event, as the race between Harris and Trump remains close with fewer than 60 days before Election Day.
