Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Inspects Flood-Affected Areas in Vijayawada

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited the flood-affected areas in Vijayawada district on September 9th, 2018. He met with residents who had been impacted by the flooding and assured them that the government would do everything possible to help them rebuild their lives.

Naidu acknowledged the damage caused by the floods, stating that homes and belongings had been destroyed. He pledged to send experts to assess the damage and assist with repairs. Additionally, the government would provide financial assistance and help repair damaged vehicles.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government's priority was ensuring the safety of citizens and providing essential supplies like food and water. He attributed the flooding to the previous government's neglect of canals and irrigation projects, specifically mentioning breaches in the Budameru canal.

To prevent the spread of diseases, the state government established a medical camp in the affected area. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav reported that two medical officers were deployed at the camp and over a lakh patients had been treated in the past week. The Health Ministry was also conducting door-to-door surveys and vector surveillance to control the spread of diseases.

While floodwaters had receded in some areas, several parts of Vijayawada remained waterlogged for the ninth consecutive day. Residents who had been displaced were being housed in relief camps.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had visited the flood-affected areas on September 6th and assessed the damage. He noted the significant losses suffered by farmers, particularly those who had lost their entire crops of bananas, turmeric, paddy, and vegetables. Chouhan assured the state of the central government's full cooperation and support during this time of crisis.
