Delhi Election Commission Partners with Rapido to Offer Free Rides Home for Voters

In a novel initiative aimed at encouraging voter participation, the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi has announced a partnership with bike taxi company Rapido. On election day, May 25th, eligible voters in Delhi will be able to avail free rides from their polling booths back home.

This collaboration between the Delhi CEO's office and Rapido seeks to address transportation barriers that may prevent citizens from exercising their right to vote. Voters can conveniently book a complimentary bike ride through the Rapido app after casting their vote. A rider will then pick them up from the polling station and safely drop them at their doorstep.

"With the initiative of free bike rides on the polling day, we aim to ensure ease of voting experience and to encourage citizens to exercise their vote and contribute to the democratic process," stated Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer, P. Krishnamurthy. "Every vote counts, and it is essential to ensure that every eligible voter can cast their vote without hindrance."

Rapido boasts a large pool of eight lakh bike drivers in Delhi, catering to a subscriber base of 80 lakh. This extensive network ensures the availability of bike riders across the city, guaranteeing convenient transportation for voters at designated polling booths.

With 367 candidates initially filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, the final contest will see 162 candidates vying for the seats. The remaining 205 nominations were either rejected or withdrawn.
