Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the strong bond between India and Norway, emphasizing their 75-year friendship built on shared democratic values, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
Kharge expressed his delight in interacting with Ine Eriksen Soreide, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Norwegian Parliament. He acknowledged the cordial and friendly relationship between the two nations since 1947, based on their common values.
Earlier, Norway's Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, welcomed a delegation from the Norwegian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence to the new Parliament building. She expressed gratitude to Minister Kiren Rijiju for receiving the delegation and sharing insights on Norway-India cooperation.
India and Norway established bilateral relations in February 1947. Their relationship is characterized by regular high-level, parliamentary, ministerial, and official exchanges. Notably, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, paid a state visit to Norway in 2014, marking the first-ever State Visit by an Indian President to Norway. During the visit, agreements and MoUs were signed for cooperation in various fields, including earth sciences, culture, scientific research, medicine, defense, and visa waivers for diplomatic passport holders.
