Sharp Corp. made a significant announcement on September 6, revealing its intention to step into the electric vehicle market by leveraging the EV platform of its parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. This strategic move marks the company's foray into the EV sector, with plans to introduce an electric vehicle in the near future. The unveiling of this plan took place during the Sharp Tech-Day '24 Innovation Showcase, commencing on September 17.
During the tech event, Sharp is set to showcase an EV concept model named the LDK+, which will integrate AIoT technology combining artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). This innovative concept car is designed to incorporate solar cells and storage batteries, allowing its AI system to efficiently manage the home electricity of its owner. Additionally, the LDK+ will feature a large LCD screen at the rear of the vehicle, offering a unique entertainment experience by converting the back seats into a theater room.
Mototaka Taneya, Sharp's senior managing executive officer, emphasized the concept of the EV being treated as a living space by stating, "The EV is considered a room, and the ‘LDK+’ is meant to create value even when the vehicle is not in motion." This vision underscores Sharp's commitment to reimagining the electric vehicle not just as a mode of transportation but also as a versatile and smart living space. Through these innovative features and technologies, Sharp aims to bring a new dimension to the electric vehicle market.
