Apple Inc. recently announced a $20 price hike for the battery replacement service for its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, making the new cost $119. Although the prices for battery repair in the standard and "Plus" models have been left unchanged, there is speculation that Apple might adjust other battery replacement costs in the future. Notably, in 2022, the tech giant increased the battery service cost for the iPhone 14 by $30 to $99.
It's important to note that defective batteries are still covered under Apple's one-year warranty, with replacements being free under AppleCare+ plans as long as the battery has less than 80% of its original capacity. This move by Apple comes following previous price increases for battery replacements in out-of-warranty devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs last year. Additionally, the company raised the battery replacement cost for specific Apple Watch models in September. Apple has also ceased covering hairline cracks on iPhone and Apple Watch displays under the standard warranty, prompting customers to bear the repair expenses themselves.
The iPhone 16 Pro is priced starting at $999 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max begins at $1,199 for the 256GB version. With pre-orders already in progress for all four models, official sales are set to commence on Sept. 20.
