Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 'One Nation, One Election' decision, emphasizing the benefits of conducting Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously. He highlighted the positive impacts of this decision, such as reducing the frequency of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) imposition, which often hinders the progress of development projects due to multiple election phases.
Despite the praises from Sai, several opposition parties have raised objections to the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal. Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh criticized the BJP, alleging that the party is synonymous with corruption and commissions, implying skepticism towards the motives behind the decision. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar also voiced his disapproval, expressing concerns about the potential adverse effects on regional parties if simultaneous elections are implemented.
The Union Cabinet's approval of the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal includes the synchronization of Lok Sabha and assembly elections, with the mandate to hold urban body and panchayat polls within 100 days. The High-level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, submitted a comprehensive report on the matter after extensive consultations and research work over a span of 191 days.
