Previously restricted to Gemini Advanced users who held a Google One AI Premium subscription, the feature has now been opened up for all Android users, granting them the opportunity to engage in voice dialogues with the AI. Only the basic version of Gemini Live is accessible in the free tier, meaning that users won't be able to access the ten varying voices provided in the paid version.
For Android users with the Gemini app, spotting a new waveform icon beside the microphone and camera icons on the screen's bottom right corner is an indicator of the new feature. By tapping this icon, users can activate Gemini Live, initiating two-way voice communication with the AI. The full-screen interface mirrors a typical phone call layout, complete with a sound wave pattern and buttons for holding and ending the conversation. Users have the ability to interrupt the AI by utilizing the hold button, allowing them to pose new questions or steer the conversation in a different direction.
Firstly, download and install the Gemini app on your Android device. Next, open the app and locate the waveform icon situated at the bottom right of the screen. Finally, tap the icon and consent to the terms and conditions to commence a conversation with the AI by speaking to it.
