India Condemns Hamas Attack, Expresses Concern Over Wider Conflict in West Asia

India's Concerns on the Israel-Iran Conflict

India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, expressed concern over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran during a conversation at the Carnegie Endowment in the US. He condemned Hamas' attack on Israel as a "terrorist attack" but also emphasized the need for any response to adhere to international humanitarian law and minimize civilian casualties.

Jaishankar expressed broader concerns about the potential for a wider conflict, not just in Lebanon but also involving the Houthis and the Red Sea, as well as any potential escalation between Iran and Israel. He stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and ensuring the safe release of all hostages.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amidst the escalating tensions in West Asia. Modi underscored the importance of preventing further escalation in the region, emphasizing that "Terrorism has no place in our world." He reiterated India's commitment to assisting in the swift restoration of peace and stability.
