A Discussion at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar
On October 4th, 2023, Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik hosted a discussion on "Security Challenges in the North East, with special reference to Arunachal Pradesh" at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar. The event brought together security experts, leaders from social organizations, educationists, and media professionals to share their perspectives on the region's security landscape.
Governor Parnaik highlighted the unique challenges and security implications faced by the northeast region, particularly Arunachal Pradesh. He emphasized the need to strengthen security along the Myanmar border and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) through technological advancements and closer collaboration between security forces and local communities.
The discussion also touched upon the Chinese War Doctrine and its implications for the region. Participants stressed the importance of strategic and tactical reciprocity to create leverage for conflict resolution. Additionally, the potential impact of regional developments in Bangladesh, Nepal, and neighboring countries on the North East, specifically Arunachal Pradesh, was explored.
Resource persons Jaideep Saikia and Group Captain Mohonto Panging Pao (Retd.) presented their insights on the security scenario in the North East and Arunachal Pradesh, respectively. Saikia proposed the establishment of a "Security Council for North East" to facilitate coordination and address challenges across the region.
Major General Jarken Gamlin (Retd.), State Chief Information Commissioner, and several other defense experts also shared their perspectives on the region's security landscape. The discussion provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue and explore potential solutions to the complex security challenges faced by the North East.
