Security Council Recommends Measures to Counter Heightened Risks

Bulgaria Navigates a Tense Security Landscape

President Rumen Radev addressed the nation following a three-hour meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security. While acknowledging the deteriorating security environment in the Middle East, he assured the public that there is no immediate threat to Bulgaria.

The council, comprised of leaders from major political parties, security services, and ministries, identified several key concerns. The escalating tensions in the Middle East raise the risk of increased migration flows and potential terrorist attacks. Additionally, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the instability in the Western Balkans further complicate the security landscape.

In response to these challenges, the council presented six recommendations to the executive branch. These include implementing preventive measures against terrorism, bolstering border security, strengthening cooperation with international security services, and revising the National Plan for Countering Terrorism.

President Radev emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and taking proactive steps to safeguard national security. He also stressed the need for continued efforts to evacuate Bulgarians from conflict zones and secure the release of Bulgarian hostages in Yemen.
