A new concept in hospitality, the Sleep Lab capsule hotel situated near Shinagawa Station in Tokyo, is employing cutting-edge technology to gather valuable data on guests' sleep patterns with the goal of enhancing their rest experience. Partnering with Nine Hours Inc., an expert in sleep analysis services, NTT Data Japan Corp. is spearheading this initiative to delve deeper into the science of sleep by equipping each capsule room with directional microphones and infrared cameras.
The data collected from guests, including metrics such as sleeping hours, body movements, snoring volume, and apneas, will not only be utilized to provide detailed sleep reports to the guests post-stay but also shared with consented companies such as food and drink manufacturers, as well as bedclothes producers. This collaborative effort seeks to not only benefit guests by improving their sleep quality but also to drive innovation in the development of sleep-related products in the market.
At an average cost ranging from 8,000 yen to 9,000 yen per night, guests can experience the benefits of this technology-driven approach to sleep improvement in the 70 exclusively male rooms available at the Sleep Lab capsule hotel. As the project gains momentum, they anticipate a diverse clientele base, ranging from working professionals to tourists, who are interested in optimizing their sleep experience through data-driven insights. Additionally, plans are underway to expand the program to cater to female guests and introduce advanced technologies like deep body temperature sensors developed by NTT Data for further analysis.
