A Partnership for Growth, Innovation, and Skilled Migration

A Focus on Streamlining the Process

In anticipation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to India, Jens-Michael Bopp, Head of Division for Skilled Migration at the German Federal Foreign Office, emphasized the government's commitment to facilitating skilled migration from India. He views this as a key task, aiming to streamline the process for those seeking employment opportunities in Germany.

Bopp believes that Scholz's visit will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations. He sees the government consultations as a chance to assess the progress made since the signing of the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA) two years ago. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to further strengthen the already robust cooperation between the two countries, with a specific focus on encouraging and enhancing skilled migration from India to Germany.

The German government recognizes the importance of making the migration process easier for individuals interested in working in Germany. They aim to connect these individuals with potential employers or universities and facilitate a smooth transition. Bopp acknowledges the significant interest from German companies, particularly with regard to India. He highlights the presence of German state offices in India, representing their home economies and actively engaging in matching exercises. The federal government fully supports and encourages these efforts.

The upcoming visit by Chancellor Scholz is expected to be a significant event, marking a period of intense German engagement in India. The Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) will see Scholz arrive with a large delegation, including seven to eight ministers. Additionally, the Asia Pacific conference of German business will bring numerous high-ranking German CEOs to Delhi to discuss business opportunities in India and Asia. This period promises to be a vibrant celebration of German-Indian collaboration.
