Congress Delegation Meets Election Commission Regarding Haryana Assembly Election Results
Following the Haryana Assembly elections, a delegation from the Congress party, led by KC Venugopal and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to address concerns regarding the results. The delegation presented complaints alleging discrepancies and irregularities in the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the polls.
The Congress delegation informed the ECI about 20 complaints received from 20 constituencies, including seven written complaints. These complaints highlighted concerns about EVMs functioning at significantly different rates, with some machines registering votes at 99% while others operated at 60-70%. The delegation demanded that these machines be sealed and secured pending further investigation.
Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed surprise at the election results, stating that initial trends indicated a Congress victory. He questioned the sudden shift in results after the counting of EVMs began, following an initial lead for the Congress based on postal ballots.
The ECI assured the delegation that they would investigate the complaints and respond after consulting with returning officers from each constituency. The Congress party plans to submit additional complaints from 13 more constituencies within the next 48 hours. They also reminded the ECI of similar complaints raised regarding the Chhattisgarh elections.
The Congress delegation's meeting with the ECI highlights ongoing concerns about the transparency and reliability of EVMs in Indian elections. The party's demand for a thorough investigation into the alleged discrepancies is crucial to ensuring public trust in the electoral process.
