Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha Criticizes Union Budget 2024-25
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha launched a scathing attack on the Union government's Budget 2024-25, stating that Indian citizens "pay taxes like England to get services like Somalia."
Chadha's criticism focused on several aspects of the budget, including the removal of indexation benefit on the sale of old property, which he believes will encourage black money inflow. He also highlighted the government's failure to fulfill promises made to farmers, such as doubling their income and providing MSP as per the Swaminathan Commission.
The AAP MP further argued that the budget has failed to address the concerns of all sections of society, including BJP supporters. He attributed the BJP's reduced number of seats in the Lok Sabha to the economic policies of the government.
Chadha also expressed concern over the "decadal low growth in rural income" and attributed it to rising rural inflation, unemployment, and low crop yield. He urged the government to roll back its decision to remove indexation on long-term capital gains, arguing that it will discourage investment in the real estate sector.
In addition to his criticism, Chadha presented eight suggestions for a comprehensive review of the budget. These suggestions included reworking the agricultural pricing formula, providing a legal guarantee to MSP, incentivizing financial savings, reviewing and simplifying GST, and adopting cooperative federalism.
Overall, Chadha's critique of the Union Budget 2024-25 highlights the concerns of the AAP regarding the government's economic policies and their impact on various sections of society. He urges the government to address these concerns and implement policies that promote inclusive growth and development.
