On 30 October, the Regional Museum of History in Razgrad has arranged complimentary guided tours around the Abrittus archaeological reserve to commemorate the conclusion of the tourist season. The guided tours will provide the public with an insightful journey through the ancient remains of Abrittus, offering a glimpse into the life of the Romans who once inhabited the area. Originating in the 1st century as a Roman military camp, Abrittus underwent a transformation to become one of the prominent cities in the province, boasting fortress walls that span 1,400 meters in length and stand 12 meters high with a thickness ranging from 2.10 to 2 meters. Over time, Abrittus served as a vital center for military, administrative, political, and religious activities, becoming one of the largest cities in the Roman province of second Moesia and housing the seat of a bishop during the 5th-6th centuries.
In addition to the guided tours and lectures on Roman history, children visiting the site will have the opportunity to engage in an ancient craft - pottery - at a specifically designated children's workshop. This hands-on activity aims to provide young participants with a tangible experience of the historical practices of the ancient inhabitants of Abrittus, further enriching their understanding of the region's heritage and culture. Through these interactive and educational initiatives, the Regional Museum of History in Razgrad endeavors to bring history to life and make it accessible to visitors of all ages, ensuring the preservation and appreciation of the rich historical legacy of Abrittus for generations to come.
