Civic Initiative Demands Annulment of Bulgarian Parliamentary Election
A civic initiative in Bulgaria is demanding the annulment of the recent parliamentary election, citing concerns about the validity of the results. The initiative claims that there are "24 fake MPs" in the new parliament and that the election was "vitiated" by the involvement of individuals associated with organized crime.
The initiative's spokesperson, Tihomir Vassilev, argues that the election results should not be accepted and that a new election should be held. He also criticizes the "circus" being played out by political parties who are attempting to form a government without addressing the concerns about the election's legitimacy.
Vassilev's claims are echoed by Ivelin Mihaylov, leader of the Velichie party, which narrowly missed entering parliament. Mihaylov also calls for the annulment of the election and a new snap election.
However, the caretaker cabinet has stated that it will not apply to the Constitutional Court for an annulment of the election. Prime Minister Glavchev maintains that only a court decision can change the results of election protocols.
The civic initiative's demands are likely to face significant legal and political hurdles. It remains to be seen whether their efforts will be successful in achieving their desired outcome.
