Caretaker Government Decides Not to Seek Annulment of Recent Election

Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has revealed that the caretaker government has no intentions of pursuing an annulment of the recent parliamentary election through the Constitutional Court. Glavchev emphasized that the results of the election protocols can only be changed through a court decision, indicating that the government will not be involved in altering the outcome through legal procedures.

In response to the reports of vote-buying that have surfaced following the election, President Radev has urged institutions to provide explanations and address the concerning allegations. The Ministry of Interior and the State Agency for National Security have already presented comprehensive reports on the election proceedings to the president, parliament, and the government. Each of these institutions has the authority to determine whether they will challenge the election results based on the information provided.

Prime Minister Glavchev acknowledged the presence of manipulations captured in videos depicting ballot counting and result registration processes. He highlighted that the selection of members for section commissions, responsible for overseeing these activities, is carried out by political parties. Continuing on the topic of election irregularities, Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov disclosed that there has been a notable increase of 58% in reports of election violations. Minister Ilkov clarified that there is currently no evidence pointing towards the misuse of public institutions as tools for influencing the election results, addressing concerns surrounding the legitimacy of the electoral process.
