Diwali Sales Trends Revealed by Zepto Highlight Demand for Traditional and Festive Items

Zepto, overseen by CEO Aadit Palicha, recently disclosed insights into the Diwali sales trends that showcased robust demand for traditional and festive products across its platform. A standout item was the Soan Papdi, a popular Diwali treat that traditionally gets shared between households during the festive period, which saw a significant increase in orders, with over seven lakh boxes sold directly to customers this year.

Aside from the Soan Papdi, Zepto's Diwali sales were driven by the appeal of gift packaging, with an impressive number of over 10 lakh gift boxes and 69,000 specially-designed festive bags distributed nationwide. Furthermore, there was a notable surge in the sales of decorative lights, which grew by a factor of 20, and coins, commonly utilized in rituals and gifting, showed a substantial ninefold increase from the previous year's figures. Traditional clay lamps, known as diyas, experienced a sixfold rise in sales compared to the prior Diwali season, while Indian sweets and candies also witnessed remarkable growth rates, with a threefold increase for mithai and a sevenfold surge for candies.

These sales statistics indicate a shift in consumer behavior, particularly among urban shoppers who are increasingly embracing digital platforms like Zepto for their everyday essentials as well as festive purchases. The trends observed during the Diwali season serve as a reflection of evolving preferences and establish the significance of online platforms as crucial hubs for seasonal shopping experiences.
