Uniqlo Opens Global Flagship Store in Tokyo's Shinjuku
Fast Retailing Co., the parent company of Uniqlo, opened a global flagship Uniqlo store in Tokyo's Shinjuku area on October 25, 2023. The new store, named Shinjuku Main Store, occupies the first three floors of a renovated building that previously housed the Bicqlo megastore, a collaboration between home-electronics retailer Bic Camera Inc. and Uniqlo.
The opening of the Shinjuku Main Store marks the fourth global flagship store in Japan and the first to open in four years. The store aims to attract both domestic and international shoppers, capitalizing on Shinjuku's popularity as a tourist destination.
Spanning a total retail space of approximately 4,000 square meters, the Shinjuku Main Store carries the full range of Uniqlo products available in Japan. Additionally, it offers a curated selection of items designed for European and U.S. markets that were previously only available online in Japan.
The decision to open the new store in Shinjuku was driven by several factors. Firstly, the area's popularity among tourists presented an opportunity to attract international shoppers. Secondly, the closure of the original Bicqlo Uniqlo Shinjuku East Exit Store in June 2022 due to lease expiration created a need for a new flagship store in the area. Finally, the increasing number of inbound tourists had pushed existing Uniqlo stores in Shinjuku to full capacity.
While the Shinjuku Main Store carries the "main store" designation, it will not serve as Uniqlo's headquarters. Instead, it will function as the flagship store for the Shinjuku area, offering a comprehensive selection of Uniqlo products and catering to the needs of both local and international customers.
