The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken action in response to a writ petition filed by Om Prakash Yadav regarding the construction of religious sites, particularly temples, within police stations throughout the state. The petitioner's counsel, Satish Verma, stated that the petitioner has raised concerns about police station heads allegedly building illegal religious sites inside the premises, which is seen as a violation of the orders of the Supreme Court.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain issued notices to several state officials, including the state Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), Principal Secretary of the Department of Home, Principal Secretary of the Department of Urban Administration and Development, as well as specific officials in Jabalpur. The court has ordered a halt on the construction of religious sites within police station premises across Madhya Pradesh, with the next hearing scheduled for November 19 to further address the issue.
During a recent hearing, Additional Advocate General for the state, H.S. Ruprah, representing the respondents, accepted the notice and requested time to gather necessary instructions. The court directed both parties to maintain the status quo until the next hearing date, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue at hand surrounding the alleged construction of temples within police stations.
