Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra took the lead in presiding over the 109th Meeting of the Executive Committee of the EPFO held in New Delhi. This meeting was particularly significant as it was the first gathering of the Committee following its reconstitution in September 2024, highlighting the importance of this statutory body under the EPF Act, 1952. The Committee's main objective is to provide assistance to the Central Board, EPF in effectively discharging its responsibilities.
During the meeting, several crucial matters were brought before the Executive Committee for discussions, recommendations, and approvals, as stated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in a released statement. Among the key topics addressed was the review and consideration of the Audited Annual Accounts of EPFO for the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23. The Committee focused on clearing the backlog of annual accounts and directed the preparation and timely presentation of the audited accounts for the year 2023-24. Additionally, the Committee discussed the draft New Compassionate Appointment Policy, 2024, aimed at providing support to the dependents and wards of EPFO employees who passed away prematurely, especially during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In line with enhancing operations and commemorating the 72nd Foundation Day of EPFO on November 15, 2024, the Executive Committee decided to leverage this occasion to advance the reform agenda and engage EPFO employees nationwide. Furthermore, the Committee laid out plans for regular monthly meetings in the upcoming months to oversee and assess the progress of ongoing reform initiatives, including the modernization project and other critical endeavors within the organization.
