Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren made a significant political move by joining the ranks of the BJP in Ranchi, distancing himself from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) - a party he had been closely associated with due to his ties with founder Shibu Soren. Champai Soren, who recently served as a minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet, expressed his discontent with the current government's policies as the reason for his decision to part ways with the party that he had been a part of for a considerable period.
Champai Soren's move to the BJP was marked by a ceremony attended by union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasizing the significance of his defection. This political development comes in the wake of Champai Soren's resignation from the JMM, following his stint as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand in February, where he filled in for Hemant Soren after the latter's resignation and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
Reports indicate that Champai Soren was dissatisfied with the way he was replaced as Chief Minister to accommodate Hemant Soren's return to power, expressing feelings of insult over his abrupt removal. His departure from JMM paved the way for Ramdas Soren, an MLA from Ghatshila, to be sworn in as a minister in the Hemant Soren government, signaling a restructuring within the state cabinet. Amidst these political transitions, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath to Ramdas Soren, ushering in a new chapter in the Jharkhand political landscape.
