Railway Worker Crushed to Death

A horrifying incident unfolded at Barauni Junction on Saturday, claiming the life of a railway worker, Amar Kumar. The 35-year-old resident of Dalsingsarai, Samastipur, was tragically crushed to death while uncoupling an engine from a bogie.

The incident occurred around 9 AM at platform no. 5. As Amar Kumar attempted to uncouple the engine of the Lucknow-Barauni Express (Train No. 15204), the driver mistakenly reversed the train instead of moving it forward. Passengers were already boarding the train when the driver's error led to the worker getting caught between the engine and the bogie.

Despite passengers raising an alarm, the driver fled the scene, leaving Amar Kumar trapped for two agonizing hours. The railway authorities' delayed response further compounded the tragedy. It took them two hours to move the engine and recover the worker's body.

The incident sparked outrage among passengers and the family of the deceased. Railway workers gathered at the scene to protest the negligence of the authorities. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sonpur arrived and ordered an investigation into the matter.

Station Master's Error Leads to Rs 3 Crore Loss

In a separate incident, a station master in Chhattisgarh caused a significant financial loss to Indian Railways due to his carelessness. While on a phone call with his wife, he accidentally sent a freight train down the wrong route in a Maoist area. His casual "OK" was misheard by staff as a green signal, leading to a Rs 3 crore loss.

These incidents highlight the need for increased vigilance and accountability within the Indian Railways system. The tragic loss of life and the financial repercussions underscore the importance of prioritizing safety and communication protocols.
