What You Need to Know
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for several soft ripened cheeses due to potential contamination with listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. The recall affects cheeses sold by Aldi, Market Basket, and other retailers.
What cheeses are affected?
The recall involves seven types of ripened cheese produced at a facility in Lena, Illinois. The cheeses have best-buy dates of December 24, 2024, and January 13, 2025.
Aldi Emporium Selection Brie (8- and 12-ounces)
Supreme Oval (6 to 7 ounces)
La Bonne Vie Camember (6- and 8-ounces)
What should you do if you have purchased these cheeses?
Consumers are urged not to eat the recalled products and to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
What are the risks of listeria infection?
Listeria infection can cause serious health problems, especially for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, nausea, and diarrhea. In severe cases, listeria infection can lead to meningitis, sepsis, and even death.
A separate recall has been issued for turkey sandwiches containing the recalled cheese. These sandwiches were sold under the CIBUS Fresh, Jack & Olive, and Sprig and Sprout labels in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. The sandwiches have expiration dates of November 2, 2024, to November 9, 2024.
