Social Security Recipients May Get Extra Checks in November
Some Social Security recipients may receive an extra check in November due to the calendar falling on a weekend. This applies specifically to those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and, in some cases, also receive regular Social Security benefits.
SSI recipients:
Will receive their November payment on Friday, November 1.
Will also receive a second payment on Friday, November 29, reflecting their December payment which falls on a Sunday.
May receive a total of three payments in November if they also receive regular Social Security benefits.
Will receive their November Social Security payment on November 1 instead of the usual third of the month.
Will receive their November SSI payments as mentioned above.
Will receive their payments according to the regular schedule based on their birth date.
Born 1st-10th: Payment on November 13.
Payment on November 20.
Payment on November 27.
November 1: SSI and combined SSI/Social Security payments.
Regular Social Security payments based on birth date.
Second SSI payment.
Social Security COLA increase takes effect.
Social Security recipients will see a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) with their January 2025 payments. This translates to an average monthly increase of $50, bringing the typical benefit to $1,976 per month. The exact date of the COLA increase depends on the recipient's birth date.
People who started collecting Social Security before May 1997 will receive their COLA increase on January 3.
SSI recipients will receive their COLA increase with their December 31, 2024, payment.
