Disney Treasure Rescues Four People from Catamaran in Peril 265 Miles Off Bermuda

The Disney Treasure, a Disney Cruise Line ship, rescued four people from a catamaran that was taking on water approximately 265 miles off Bermuda on Sunday. The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City coordinated the rescue with the Treasure, which was the closest vessel to the 50-foot catamaran. The Treasure launched a lifeboat and safely retrieved all four people from the Serenity.

The Treasure was en route from the Netherlands to its new home in Port Canaveral, Florida, when it diverted to assist the catamaran at approximately 11:40 a.m. It arrived at the scene at 1 p.m. and rescued the four people onboard.

"We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety," said Disney Treasure Captain Marco Nogara.

The Treasure, which has 1,256 staterooms, is scheduled to embark on its first voyage, a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, on December 21.
