OpenAI Co-founder Greg Brockman Returns After Three-Month Leave
Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, has announced his return to the AI startup after a three-month leave. He made the announcement on Tuesday via a post on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "Longest vacation of my life complete. Back to building OpenAI." An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that Brockman has resumed his duties at the company.
Brockman's return comes at a crucial time for OpenAI, which has recently experienced a wave of high-profile departures, including former CTO Mira Murati, co-founder John Schulman, and co-founder Ilya Sutskever. Despite these departures, OpenAI's valuation skyrocketed to $157 billion in its latest funding round, securing over $6.5 billion in new funding. This massive valuation has sparked analyst expectations for a surge in AI spending.
However, OpenAI's transition from a non-profit to a for-profit model has led to a financial and governance dispute with Microsoft Corporation, which has invested nearly $14 billion in OpenAI since 2019. It remains to be seen how these issues will be resolved and how they will impact OpenAI's future development.
