Free Bike Rides for Delhi Voters on Election Day
In a novel initiative for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 25th, the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi has partnered with bike taxi company Rapido to offer free rides to voters from polling booths to their homes. This collaboration aims to address transportation barriers and encourage citizens to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Eligible voters in Delhi will have the option to book a complimentary bike ride through the Rapido app after casting their vote. A rider will pick them up from the polling station and safely drop them at their home.
"With the provision of free bike rides on the polling day, we aim to ensure ease of voting experience and to encourage citizens to exercise their vote and contribute to the democratic process," said P. Krishnamurthy, Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. "Every vote counts and it is essential to ensure that every eligible voter can cast their vote without hindrance."
Rapido has a large pool of bike drivers and a wide subscriber base in Delhi, ensuring availability of rides across the city. The company will facilitate and ensure the presence of bike riders at designated polling booths.
This initiative is particularly significant considering the large number of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi. With 367 nominations filed, 162 candidates remain in the contest after the rejection and withdrawal of several nominations.
