Indian Navy's INS Vikramaditya to Undergo Short Refit and Dry Docking
The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) of INS Vikramaditya, the Indian Navy's aircraft carrier. The project is valued at Rs. 1207.5 Crores.
INS Vikramaditya, commissioned in November 2013, will undergo the SRDD process to enhance its combat capabilities. Upon completion, the aircraft carrier will rejoin the Indian Navy's active fleet with upgraded systems and functionalities.
This project holds significant importance for the development of Cochin Shipyard Limited as a Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Hub. It will involve the participation of nearly 50 MSMEs and generate employment opportunities for over 3500 personnel.
The project aligns with the Government of India's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India initiative, promoting self-reliance and domestic manufacturing within the defense sector.
