In response to an alleged attack on Arvind Kejriwal during his padyatra in Delhi, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva accused the AAP of orchestrating the incident for sympathy. He claimed that the accused individual, identified as a local AAP worker, was caught in an intoxicated state and that the incident was a political drama aimed at garnering sympathy amidst the party's disappointments and failures.
On the other hand, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat expressed disapproval of the attack, stating that such incidents may occur when leaders engage with the public during padyatras. She emphasized that individuals should express grievances verbally rather than resorting to physical actions, highlighting the public's frustration due to unfulfilled promises by the Delhi government. Sehrawat urged dissatisfied citizens to use their votes to express discontent, while also calling for appropriate police action against the accused to maintain law and order.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, in contrast, alleged a more sinister intent behind the attack, claiming that there was an attempt to burn Kejriwal alive during the event. He accused the BJP of being involved in the incident, pointing to the accused, Ashok, whose Facebook profile was reportedly reviewed by AAP members. Kejriwal was meeting the public in Greater Kailash when the incident occurred, leading to the accused being detained by the Delhi Police for questioning to determine the motive.
Several political leaders, including AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Congress leader Tariq Anwar, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang, and Janata Dal (United) leader Neeraj Kumar, condemned the attack on Kejriwal. They highlighted concerns about the security lapses and the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, calling for strict action against the perpetrator by the Delhi Police to prevent such incidents and maintain public safety.
