Suzuki and S.T. Corp. Team Up to Develop Air Freshener for Carsickness
In an unusual collaboration, Suzuki Motor Corp. and S.T. Corp., a company known for everyday items, have joined forces to develop an air freshener specifically designed to help passengers suffering from carsickness. This marks the first time the automaker and the everyday item giant have crossed industry boundaries for a collaborative effort.
The air freshener, measuring 6 centimeters in diameter and 7 cm in height, fits snugly in a typical cup holder near the driver's seat. It utilizes wood shavings infused with a fragrance extracted from Sakhalin fir, known for its effectiveness in combating unpleasant indoor odors. The deodorizer's effect lasts for up to two months, with refills readily available.
The development of this air freshener stems from a survey conducted by Suzuki, which revealed that 20% of passengers experience motion sickness. Many of those surveyed reported that "new car smell" and other auto-related odors worsen their symptoms. In response, Suzuki sought collaboration with S.T. Corp. to address carsickness from a scent-based perspective.
In addition to the air freshener, Suzuki is also involved in developing an oscillation-proof suspension system to further combat carsickness. The air freshener is expected to be priced around 2,000 yen ($13) and will be available for purchase at Suzuki Motor's website and dealerships next spring.
