Jordan Cullinane and Remi Krahenbring, a young couple from Queensland, Australia, have achieved their dream of homeownership.
The couple, both in their early twenties, were working at a meat processor in the Lockyer Valley when they decided they didn't want to be paying off someone else's mortgage. They started saving for a deposit, living with Ms. Cullinane's parents and cutting back on expenses.
After saving for about 10 months, they had $60,000 for a deposit. They bought a 510 square-meter block of land in the Plainland Crossing estate for $167,000. They were able to borrow against the equity to get started on their home, which cost $283,000, taking their total spend to $450,000.
The building process was not without its challenges, but the couple was finally able to move into their new home in March 2022. They are now expecting their second child and plan to buy investment properties in the future.
Their story is an inspiration to other young people who are struggling to get into the housing market. With hard work and sacrifice, it is possible to achieve your dream of homeownership.
