Sambhal District Magistrate Requests Neighboring Districts to Stop Rahul Gandhi
On December 3rd, 2023, Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya wrote to the officers of neighboring districts, including Bulandshahr, Amroha, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar, requesting them to stop Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at their district borders.
This request comes in the wake of recent violence in Sambhal district, which erupted after a survey conducted on November 24th. The survey sparked protests from members of the Muslim community, leading to gunfire, stone-pelting, and arson.
In his letter, Pensiya stated that the situation in Sambhal district is extremely sensitive and that the entry of any external individuals, social organizations, or public representatives is restricted until December 10th without prior approval. He also cited prohibitory orders issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Pensiya requested the neighboring districts to monitor Rahul Gandhi's activities and prevent him from entering Sambhal district, considering the communal sensitivity of the area.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary and Uttar Pradesh In-Charge Avinash Pande urged people to gather in large numbers on Wednesday to support Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Sambhal. However, Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh announced that the administration is consistently urging Gandhi to postpone his visit due to the ongoing tensions in the district.
The administration is appealing to everyone to avoid visiting Sambhal temporarily to allow normalcy to be restored. They are also in regular communication with Rahul Gandhi, requesting him to reconsider his plans.
