In Gurugram, a woman and her child were victims of a terrifying robbery at gunpoint by a cab driver on November 29th. The incident occurred while they were traveling in a BluSmart cab.
The driver, identified as Sonu Singh, allegedly pulled out a gun and forced the woman to transfer Rs 55,000 from her mobile phone. He then fled the scene with some of her belongings.
Following the woman's complaint, the police registered a case against Singh and arrested him on December 1st.
BluSmart, the cab company, issued a statement expressing their deep concern over the incident and apologizing to the affected family. They also stated that they were taking immediate steps to strengthen their safety protocols, including additional training for drivers and enhanced technology solutions.
The company emphasized its use of facial recognition technology to verify driver identities and highlighted the availability of a dedicated safety helpline for riders. They also noted that the detailed documentation on the accused driver and the swift actions of their team played a crucial role in assisting the police, enabling them to apprehend the accused within 24 hours.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of passengers using app-based cab services. BluSmart has assured its riders that they are committed to providing a safe and comfortable experience and are working tirelessly to rebuild trust.
