Bezos Expresses Optimism for Trump's Second Term, Offers Support for Reducing Regulations

In a recent interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit, Jeff Bezos, the co-founder of Amazon.com, Inc., shared his positive outlook on Donald Trump's second term as President of the United States. Bezos specifically emphasized his optimism regarding Trump's enthusiasm for reducing regulations and expressed his willingness to support these efforts. He articulated his viewpoint that there is an excess of regulation in the country and stated that if he could help Trump in this endeavor, he would do so.

Furthermore, Bezos discussed his plans to engage with Trump on the topic of the press, aiming to change Trump's perspective. Bezos expressed his belief that the press should not be viewed as the enemy, indicating his intention to have a conversation with Trump to influence his stance on this matter. Additionally, Bezos commented on Elon Musk's role in the upcoming term, displaying confidence in Musk's ethical conduct by stating that he did not foresee Musk using his influence to harm competitors of Blue Origin, the aerospace manufacturer founded by Bezos.

Bezos's recent statements come in the context of his decision in October to prohibit The Washington Post, which he owns, from endorsing presidential candidates. This move led to subscription cancellations and protests from journalists. The relationship between Trump and Bezos has been marked by tension, including allegations of Amazon's bias affecting a Pentagon contract bid. Trump has previously criticized Amazon for tax practices, while Amazon filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in 2019, claiming unfair treatment in a cloud computing contract bid. Despite their contentious history, Bezos refrained from endorsing any candidate during the recent elections and congratulated Trump on his victory, describing it as an "extraordinary political comeback.
