National Commission for Women hosts interactive meeting with State Women Commissions

The National Commission for Women (NCW) recently organized a significant two-day interactive meeting with Chairpersons and senior officers from State Women Commissions (SWCs) in New Delhi. The primary focus of this meeting was to reinforce the partnership between NCW and SWCs, enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing to advance women's welfare nationwide. During the gathering, Chairperson of NCW, Vijaya Rahatkar, underscored the importance of strengthening the bonds between the two entities as a crucial step in deepening networks and reaffirming their shared commitment to empowering women.

Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar highlighted the significance of collaboration, stating that by working together, exchanging experiences, and learning from each other, they could collectively become a stronger force in driving women's empowerment across the country. The meeting served as an important platform for both NCW and SWCs to engage in collaborative discussions on various issues affecting women, including policy advocacy, research, and capacity building. Key areas of focus included domestic violence, human trafficking, cyber laws, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, and child marriage, with participants exploring strategies for coordinated actions to address these pressing concerns.

A specialized workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act was conducted during the meeting to educate participants on its implementation and importance within workplaces and educational institutions. The workshop aimed to provide valuable insights into creating safe environments for women, addressing enforcement challenges, and developing awareness-raising strategies. Additionally, a session on Deepfakes was held to raise awareness about the risks associated with digitally manipulated media, particularly in terms of potential harassment and defamation. Efforts were made to educate delegates on recognizing deepfakes, understanding legal implications, and devising protective strategies to safeguard women from digital abuse.
