India's Concerns on the Israel-Iran Conflict
India has expressed its concern over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, particularly in the wake of Hamas' attack on Israel. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, speaking at the Carnegie Endowment in the US, condemned the attack as a "terrorist act."
While acknowledging Israel's right to respond, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and minimizing civilian casualties. He expressed deep concern about the potential for a wider conflict, encompassing Lebanon, the Houthis, the Red Sea, and even a direct confrontation between Iran and Israel.
Amidst these escalating tensions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Modi stressed the need to prevent further escalation and reiterated India's commitment to supporting the restoration of peace and stability in the region. He also condemned terrorism and emphasized its unacceptability in any form.
