Muft Bijli Yojana Expands with New Implementation Models

Muft Bijli Yojana. This landmark initiative aims to provide free electricity to households by promoting the installation of rooftop solar panels.

RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) Model: Third-party entities invest in rooftop solar installations, allowing consumers to pay only for the electricity consumed without upfront costs.

DISCOMs or state designated entities install rooftop solar projects on behalf of individual residential households.

A dedicated corpus fund of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for a Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) to de-risk investments in RESCO-based rooftop solar models. This fund can be supplemented by other grants and sources.

These new models will complement the existing national portal-based implementation, expanding access to solar power for more households.

Subsidy: The scheme offers a substantial subsidy of up to 40% of the cost of installing solar panels.

Aims to benefit 1 crore households across India.

Estimated to generate annual savings of Rs. 75,000 crores in electricity costs for the government.

Muft Bijli Yojana demonstrates the government's commitment to promoting sustainable energy and ensuring energy access for all. By empowering households to harness solar power, the scheme contributes to a cleaner and more secure energy future for India.
