Negotiations for Forming Regular Government Complicated by Inclusion of DPS Representatives

Negotiations to establish a regular government are in progress, with Rosen Zhelyazkov from GERB-SDS being agreed upon as the next prime minister. Despite agreement on the name of the future prime minister and the governance agreement, talks have hit a roadblock with the participation of representatives from the "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms - DPS" party. The inclusion of DPS representatives, particularly their request for deputy ministerial positions and influence over the decisions of the upcoming cabinet, has not been well-received by the three formations involved, namely GERB-SDS, BSP, and ITN, potentially jeopardizing the outcome of the negotiations.

Although there was an initial understanding that the group around Ahmed Dogan would not have its own representatives in the executive power, DPS has pushed for involvement in decision-making roles. This move has raised concerns among the existing agreement parties and cast doubt on the successful conclusion of the negotiation process. In response to media speculation about their motives, DPS released a statement dismissing any notions of ulterior motives or hidden agendas related to positions within the future government, emphasizing a focus on constructive dialogue in the formation of a government majority. President Rumen Radev is anticipated to designate a date for granting an exploratory mandate for cabinet formation once he receives confirmation that the negotiations have reached a resolution.
