India's External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, recently visited Washington D.C. to represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration of President Donald Trump. During his visit, Jaishankar met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials, reaffirming the strong foundation of the US-India partnership and discussing opportunities for further collaboration.
Jaishankar noted that the Trump administration is keen to have India present at the inaugural itself and is prioritizing the bilateral relationship. He also highlighted the strong foundation laid by the previous Trump administration and the desire to build upon it.
The meeting between Jaishankar and Rubio focused on a wide range of topics, including regional issues, economic ties, irregular migration, and opportunities to deepen the US-India relationship. Both leaders emphasized collaboration in areas such as critical and emerging technologies, defense, energy, and the advancement of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Jaishankar expressed optimism about the bilateral relationship, stating that he looks forward to working closely with Secretary Rubio to advance strategic cooperation.
The US-India relationship has seen substantial growth in recent years, with a focus on defense collaboration, trade, and shared strategic goals in the Indo-Pacific region. The Indian American community, numbering approximately 4.4 million, plays a pivotal role in strengthening ties between the two nations.
