DMK's Siva Set for Victory in Vikravandi Bypoll, Boosting Party Amidst Challenges

DMK Candidate Anniyur Siva Leads in Vikravandi Assembly Bypoll

The ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu appears to have successfully passed a crucial test in the Vikravandi assembly bypoll. Their candidate, Anniyur Siva, is poised to win the election with a significant lead over his rival, PMK's C Anbumani. As of 1:00 pm, Siva was ahead by a margin of 39,435 votes.

This by-election was held due to the unfortunate death of the previous MLA, N Pugazhenthi. A total of 29 candidates contested the election, but the main fight was between DMK's Siva and PMK's Anbumani. Notably, the AIADMK boycotted the election, citing concerns about fairness under the DMK government.

The DMK's victory in this bypoll is seen as a positive sign for the party, especially after facing criticism over recent events like the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy and the murder of BSP state chief Armstrong. These incidents had raised questions about the law and order situation in the state.

Vikravandi assembly constituency is located in the Viluppuram district and is part of the Viluppuram (SC) Parliament Seat. As per the 2011 Census, the constituency has a significant number of SC and ST voters, along with a majority of rural voters.

In the 2021 assembly elections, the DMK's Pugazhenthi N won the Vikravandi seat by defeating the ADMK's Muthamilselvan R. The voter turnout in the recent bypoll was slightly lower than the 2021 assembly elections, but still remained high at 82.48%.

The DMK's victory in the Vikravandi bypoll is a significant boost for the party and its leader, Chief Minister MK Stalin. It demonstrates the party's continued popularity and its ability to overcome recent challenges.
