President Droupadi Murmu recently hosted the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, marking his first State Visit to India. During the visit, President Murmu underscored the deep-rooted historical connections between India and Indonesia that span thousands of years, emphasizing the common values of pluralism, inclusiveness, and the rule of law that shape the contemporary relations between the two countries.

President Murmu expressed gratitude to President Subianto for accepting the invitation to attend India's Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, commemorating the historic occasion of President Sukarno of Indonesia being the first Chief Guest at India's Republic Day in 1950. She highlighted the significant democratic traditions and the longstanding ties between India and Indonesia, reflecting on the shared civilizational links, such as the 'Bali Jatra' observed in Odisha, which honors the historical sea journeys taken by Indian seafarers and traders to Bali and other regions in the Indo-Pacific.

During the meeting, discussions between the two Presidents focused on the vast potential for expanding bilateral trade and investments, leveraging the emerging markets, geographical proximity, and similar economic structures of India and Indonesia. President Murmu also pointed out the increasing importance of defense and space cooperation in strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries, recognizing Indonesia as a key partner in India's 'Act East' policy and Indo-Pacific Vision. Furthermore, she highlighted the close cooperation between India and Indonesia on multilateral platforms like the G-20, ASEAN, and their joint efforts as leading members of the Global South.
