Bulgarian Black Sea Coast Spared from Oil Spill According to Recent Analysis

The recent oil spill in the Black Sea, resulting from an accident involving two Russian tankers on December 15, 2024, has been a cause for concern. However, analysis of satellite images by the Naval Academy has provided some relief as it suggests that the pollution is not likely to reach the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. This information was shared during an emergency meeting between Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh and Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov, where it was emphasized that continuous monitoring of the spill's path is being carried out.

Minister Genov reassured the public by stating that there is no immediate threat of pollution in the Bulgarian waters of the Black Sea. The monitoring of the spill's trajectory is not only a concern in Bulgaria but also in neighboring countries including Russia, Romania, Turkiye, and Ukraine. These countries are collaborating closely to ensure the safety of their citizens and to stay informed about the situation as it unfolds. Minister Genov highlighted the ongoing communication and coordination efforts among these nations to keep a close watch on the state of the Black Sea and take necessary precautions.
