Shaadi.com Founder Takes Down Another Influencer-Turned-Founder on Shark Tank India
Anupam Mittal, the founder of Shaadi.com, has once again made headlines for his critical approach towards influencer-turned-founders on Shark Tank India. This time, his target was Vijay Nihalchandani, a business and finance influencer who pitched his app "Make My Payment" on the show.
Nihalchandani, along with his wife, brother, and business partner, sought an investment of ₹30 lakh for a 3% stake in their company. However, the "sharks" were not impressed. Namita Thapar questioned the effectiveness of automated payment reminders for defaulting debtors, while Aman Gupta inquired about Nihalchandani's other ventures.
The influencer revealed that he earns around ₹5 lakh per month through Instagram and runs a profitable hotel bookings business. However, Anupam Mittal dismissed his business, stating that it only generates ₹30,000 per month and suggested he would be better off setting up a street stall.
Nihalchandani's inability to answer basic questions from the "sharks" ultimately led to his pitch being rejected. This incident marks the second time Mittal has criticized an influencer-turned-founder on the show, following his critique of Gaurav Taneja's protein brand "Beast Life."
Mittal's stance highlights the importance of full-time dedication and commitment to building a successful business. He believes that entrepreneurship requires constant focus and cannot be treated as a part-time endeavor. While influencer-turned-founders may bring a large audience and marketing expertise, their lack of business experience and commitment can be a major drawback for investors.
