The Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association and the Bulgarian Association of Dairy Processors have expressed growing dissatisfaction with the current pricing of everyday food products in Bulgaria. They pointed to the fact that despite a lower standard of living in Bulgaria compared to countries like Austria and Germany, the cost burden on Bulgarian consumers appears disproportionately high.
The organizations underscored a troubling trend where the markup on final selling prices, especially for dairy products, has reached or exceeded 100% over the past year. They argued that such pricing is often detached from genuine market conditions or the operational costs incurred by manufacturers and processors.
In their statement, the associations emphasized the necessity for prompt corrective measures to protect the free market and ensure fair competition, ultimately safeguarding the interests of local producers, processors, and end consumers alike.
