A Unified AI Experience

OpenAI has announced its plans for GPT-5, the next major iteration of its AI model. This new model aims to simplify and improve the company's AI offerings by integrating various technologies under one umbrella.

GPT-5 promises to be more versatile, intelligent, and user-friendly. CEO Sam Altman emphasizes its goal of eliminating the complexity of switching between different AI models, creating a system that can handle a wide range of tasks efficiently.

New features include voice interaction for natural conversations, a visual "canvas" tool for interacting with images and text, integrated search for accurate responses, and deep research capabilities for handling complex topics.

OpenAI plans to roll out GPT-5 across ChatGPT and its API, offering different access levels based on subscription tiers. Free users will have unlimited chat access to GPT-5 at a "standard intelligence" level, with some restrictions to prevent misuse. ChatGPT Plus subscribers will access a more advanced version, while ChatGPT Pro subscribers will receive the highest level of intelligence.

OpenAI acknowledges the current system's complexity, requiring users to choose between different AI versions. Altman emphasizes their desire for AI to "just work" without user intervention, aiming to return to a "magic unified intelligence."

Before launching GPT-5, OpenAI will release GPT-4.5, internally known as Orion. This will be their last non-chain-of-thought model, lacking the self-checking reasoning abilities of newer models like GPT-5.
