India's Concerns on the Israel-Iran Conflict
India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, expressed his concern about the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran during a conversation at the Carnegie Endowment in the US. He condemned Hamas' attack on Israel as a "terrorist attack" but also emphasized the need for any response to adhere to international humanitarian law and minimize civilian casualties.
Jaishankar expressed particular concern about the potential for the conflict to broaden, encompassing Lebanon, the Houthis, the Red Sea, and even Iran itself. He stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and ensuring the safe release of all hostages.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also engaged in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amidst the escalating tensions. Modi underscored the need to prevent further escalation and reiterated India's commitment to assisting in the swift restoration of peace and stability. He emphasized that terrorism has no place in the world and that regional escalation must be prevented.
