Instagram Testing "Dislike" Button for Comments
Instagram is testing a new feature that allows users to privately dislike comments on both Feed posts and Reels. This "dislike" button will not display a public dislike count, and users will not be notified if their comment has been disliked. However, disliked comments may be ranked lower in the thread over time.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained that the purpose of this feature is to help make comments more friendly and to give users more control over their experience. A Meta spokesperson emphasized that the test aims to improve user control and create a better experience by potentially moving disliked comments lower in the comments section.
This move echoes Reddit's downvote system, which helps surface the most relevant discussions. However, it remains unclear if Instagram's approach will carry the same weight in determining comment visibility as Reddit's algorithm does.
The feature is currently in limited testing, and Meta has not yet announced when it might roll out more widely.
